Rising Ocean and Land Temperatures

It is recorded that this past year, 2019, held the highest ocean temperature record of all time. Since 2016 and even before, it has been gradually increasing, which is really concerning. Scientists have been looking more into checking ocean temperatures, because land temperatures are supposed to fluctuate at times due to other factors like current "El NiƱo". Since there is more advanced methods of testing temperatures in the ocean, concern is growing more and more for our Earth. This can also cause natural disasters and the endangerment of species in the ocean.

My Opinion

This news really invokes a feeling of sadness and loss of hope for the future for me. This is because there are about 230,000 species in our oceans, meaning many of them could be harmed and already are being harmed. Many of the species do so much for our environments and take important roles in nature. It's scary to think about many species dying so quickly, as most of us have seen with fish and birds. It can happen to any other species as much as it did to those.

One important thing to know is that oceans have absorbed 93 percent of excess heat from greenhouse gases, which means it is taking it in, instead of the land. Whatever is happening to the oceans, can also happen on land so we have to make sure we are helping both the ocean and land.
